On January 16-18th 2018 the focus for the amusements and attractions industries will be on ExCel London as industry leaders converge on EAG International & the Visitor Attraction Expo.
EAG International follows a 70 year tradition of a January coin-op show in London, whilst the Visitor Attraction Expo, now in its fourth year, is a relative newcomer.
Both shows have their own distinct identities but benefit enormously from crossover between their target markets. EAG International has always been about coin-op amusements and low-stakes gaming, whilst VAE focuses on smaller attractions and indoor and adventure play, a sector which previously lacked its own UK event.
Organiser Karen Cooke explains: “In many ways, the co-existence of the two shows reflects what is happening in the coin-op and leisure industries at large. Our customer’s businesses are having to fight hard to retain and increase their share of the leisure spend so it’s understandable that they are embracing ideas and initiatives from other markets. The in-home entertainment proposition is more compelling than it’s ever been and is creating stiff competition.
“Inventive businesses have adapted by borrowing from other sectors to widen their offering; we have seen attractions and play centres adopting coin-op amusements for much needed new revenues, whilst traditional FEC destinations are adopting play, edutainment and theming.
Many of the show’s exhibitors, such as suppliers of admissions and management technology, as well as coin handling and ticketing solutions providers have actually had a foot in each camp for some time,” discloses Karen.
Certainly, many of the event’s exhibitors agree that the two combined shows are greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Speaking of the 2017 event, Lewis Kler, Sales Manager of Laser Zone commented, “This is a great show for meeting new customers and as an introduction to new markets.”
Semnox Solutions travelled from India to exhibit and Managing Director Iqbal Mohammad felt the trip was definitely worthwhile: “We’ve met some really serious prospects at the show and are looking forward to gaining new clients. The UK is going well for us; we’ve completed an installation at Fantasy Island and an end-to-end cashless solution expansion at Clacton Pier,” confirmed Iqbal.
New for 2018, EAG International will be welcoming a host of first-time exhibitors, together showcasing an impressive range of business building products and services. The show’s broader base will also be reflected in a far-reaching seminar and educational programme; details to be announced shortly.
For the leisure operator, time invested at EAG & VAE provides the ideal start to the New Year. For three days, visitors will not only experience the very latest products from around the globe, but take the opportunity to review the trading environment and to compare notes with fellow professionals.
